Meet Jakob Bonner, Peace of Mind Recipient

Valentine Roofing's Peace of Mind program provides a free roof each year to a deserving homeowner facing hardship. Recipients are nominated by friends, family members, neighbors, and community members who recognize individuals making a difference despite challenging circumstances. The program reflects Valentine Roofing's commitment to serving the Pacific Northwest community and creating meaningful impact beyond roofing. This year, we had the privilege of surprising Tacoma homeowner Jakob Bonner with a brand-new roof, giving his family one less thing to worry about.
Jakob was nominated by his mother, Gayle, who shared the story of a hardworking father doing everything he can to provide for his two young sons. As a single-income parent, Jakob's days are full from start to finish. He works hard every day, comes home to cook dinner, and spends his evenings caring for and playing with his boys. Both of his sons, ages four and six, are autistic and nonverbal, creating unique challenges that require constant care, patience, and attention.
The costs associated with raising children with special needs can be overwhelming. Between daily expenses, specialized items, and the responsibilities of homeownership, Jakob has been doing everything possible just to make ends meet. The family's small two-bedroom, one-bath home was purchased before Jakob's second son was born. As his children grew, so did their needs. The home's limited space became increasingly difficult for the family, and the condition of the roof only added to the stress. Eventually, the roof deteriorated to the point that the family's homeowners insurance dropped coverage until repairs could be completed.
When we heard Jakob story, we were touched by his story and wanted to help through Valentine Roofing's Peace of Mind program.
With the support of generous partners, Valentine Roofing was honored to provide Jakob and his family with a complete roof replacement at no cost.
Owens Corning graciously donated the roofing materials for the project, while Halls Hauling donated dumpster services to help make the installation possible. Together, we were able to give this deserving family the protection and security they needed.
Jakob's story is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gift we can give is peace of mind. We are honored to have played a small part in helping this hardworking father and his family move forward with confidence.
